Representatives from SAPA attended a board governance workshop at Volunteer Lethbridge on Saturday, November 29th, 2019.
The workshop ran from 8:00am to 4:30pm and covered topics including structure, governance, committees, risk management and financial planning.
SAPA Secretary Lyvia Hughes was in attendance. "Attending the Intro to Board Governance seminar was enlightening. Leah was able to present a lot of information in an informative, comprehensive and collaborative manner," she commented.
Hughes went on to connect what she learned with her experience with the Pagan Association. "We, at SAPA, have made a lot of progress within our first year, and I am proud to say that despite not knowing what we were doing, we were able to accomplish quite a bit on the administrative side."
The future of the fledgling association has greatly benefited from this workshop and attendees indicated interest in pursuing future workshops and seminars. A board leadership seminar will take place in April 2020 and has already attracted nineteen presenters, each with a different topic. SAPA members are being encouraged to attend whether they play an executive role, or they are volunteering and hoping to expand their involvement.
Hughes is hopeful about the benefits that increased professional development will bring the Pagan Association. She also suggests increased training and participation in these kinds of workshops in the future. On this, she stated, "We have a lot more to do to ensure that we are prepared to serve our community to the best of our abilities."
