As many of you know, SAPA loves to bring people together at our monthly Brewing with Witches event. This month, we held BwW at Bread Milk and Honey.

We photographed the people who stayed until the end, but several more were in attendance.

One thing about Brewing with Witches that's sometimes overlooked is that we try to support local spots in order to feature and promote the amazing small businesses that Lethbridge is fortunate to have. This small city is unique for its abundance of well-established small business owners, and we are more than happy to contribute to the kind of hometown pride that comes along with making friends and partners in our community.

The word "pagan" perhaps developed from a medieval Latin word that, roughly translated, means "rural". In the Middle Ages, the small towns that existed in the beautiful, wild and bucolic regions of the European countryside were so far away from the urban centers that their practices were viewed as backwards and folkish. Their ideas about remedies, agricultural practices, community festivals and their diverse worldviews were not to be found in the codices studied by the elite members of metropolitan society.

Often in the pagan regions, communities were tightly-knit and fostered a sense of togetherness and support that was scarcely found amid the individualistic identities of the city-folk. SAPA chooses to honour this sense of community-mindedness in our gatherings and workshops, but we also prioritize inclusion so that a diverse crowd of people feel welcome in this community.

Part of community creation and maintenance is supporting our local venues! Please join us for future events, such as Crones and Sages and Make-Your-Own-Gift Yule Bazaar at Stoketown Cafe and Cure. The more we contribute to creating a community, the more support we will be able to provide and access. We like to think that's the true spirit of paganism: getting beyond the darkness of division and exclusion, and helping to show our communities how much we can accomplish together!
