This past weekend, SAPA was pleased to be able to provide a number of wonderful events for the community.
First, Linda McFalls - Director on SAPA’s Board - hosted the inaugural Crones and Sages event- a casual meetup with older individuals who have entered the last stage of their life. This event is for anyone who identifies as a crone, or a sage, and is intended to provide a space for those that would like to connect with others and share their wisdom, stories, and experiences. “We had a great time, telling stories from our past and what exciting stuff was happening with SAPA. Lots of laughing and only a bit of swearing” Linda says. The next meetup is TBA, so be sure to watch our Facebook page for all those details!
Next, the second session of Edda Poetry in a Heathen Context was provided by our very own Vice-Chairperson, Leif Sturmanis Nordholm. The group met in the private board room at Stoketown Café and Cure. This seminar is the perfect blend of casual discussion paired with formal tutelage about the Poetic Edda and the history of the Norse myths. A variety of personalities meet for this group, with our youngest member being as young as 14. All attendees have provided amazing feedback both on the material, as well as the facilitator. “You can really feel his passion when he speaks” says one attendee. “If he were a high school teacher, I would really want to take his class!” says our youngest. The group meets twice a month, over the course of 5 months to discuss and dissect the Poetic Edda. SAPA has created a private Facebook group, so that the insights and discussion can continue between sessions. While, currently at capacity, SAPA hopes to be able to continue such seminars and educational workshops for the community in the future.
Finally, some members of the SAPA Board of Directors set off on an event that create and cultivate the bond we share. We set off to the distant land of Egypt to search for a missing archeologist before getting caught by the authorities! We had an hour before the sun rose and the authorities reached the dig site. Working together as a team, we locaed all pieces of the missing tablet and solved the mystery escaping with only moments to spare! It was quite the experience and helped each member learn how to better communicate with each other.
